So Dramatic

Reclaiming Emotion, Power, and Space

3 -31 March 2026 Brixton Library

So Dramatic reclaims a phrase so often used to silence women who dare to express emotion, demand fairness, or simply take up space. Created by artists Fiona Freund and Lise Meyrick, this exhibition brings together painting and photography in a bold celebration of women today.

Private View 5 March 2026 6-8 pm

Both artists are long term residents of Brixton. Many of the portraits by Fiona (award-winning photographer) are of incredible women, past and present, who have made a huge contribution to the community there. She is also showing portraits of Siouxie Sioux and Marina Abramovich - and other queens of drama. Lise (graphic designer and painter) works on both canvas and paper, allowing each material to influence the way images emerge. Some forms are clear, others dissolve into abstraction.

Together, they are taking over the incredible Brixton Library Gallery space to install a show that will champion women and their lived experience in a bold, dynamic way. By pairing photographs and paintings and working with light in different ways, the show will take you on a riotous, colourful journey through the female lived experience.

The work in SoDramatic celebrates the complexity, resilience, creativity, and yes—the drama—of women navigating impossible standards. We explore the absurdity of daily contradictions, the joy of female solidarity, and the liberating power of refusing to play by rules.
